CANDIDATES FOR 2-YEAR TERM POSITIONS

PAUL ZACHARIAS

My wife, Marlene, and I have been HBE lot owners since mid-2001 and full time residents since March 2004.  I have a masters degree in economics and am recently retired from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, where I was an audit manager in the Office of Inspector General.  I spent 14 years with the Federal Reserve after 16 years with the Accounting Office (now Government Accountablility Office).  As

HBE HOA President during 2005, I have worked to enhance communications between the board and

residents and to make sure that the Board is financially prudent and responsive to the interests of the members.  I would like to continue these efforts by serving on the Board for 2006.

PEGGY STEELE

My husband, Steve and I moved from New York to Florida in 1986, coming to Hammock Beach Estates in 1991.  In New York I worked for a land surveyor for 18 years.  In 1970 I was licensed by New York State a in Cosmetology and operated my own shop along with teaching cosmetology in the secondary school system of New York State.  I also was licensed as a Cosmentologist in Florida.  I have served  for several years on the nominating committee for HBEHOA and in 2004, I served with the Board of Directors as Treasurer and this past year as Secretary.  If elected to the Board I will work to keep the best interests of our community as a top priority.  Thank you for your consideration.

JOE  BOWEN

I have over 35 years in law enforcement that began in 1966 in New Jersey, where I retired in 1966 and moved to Florida.  I became certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in Florida and worked in St. Augustine where I was assigned dual positions, one as Public Information Officer and second as Community Affairs Officer.  Before retiring in 2003, I created a partnership between the St. Augustine Police Department and State Attorneys Juvenile Diversion program, which was a  very successful program.  My wife, Kathleen and I raised  3 successful children, now adults.  While serving on the Board of Directors I have been responsible for operations and maintenance, including the pool  resurfacing and deck restoration.  I will continue to make HBE a great place to live.

FRANK CARELLI

I retired as special Agent from U.S. Customs in 1998 after 37 plus years of Government service.  I purchased my lot in 1993 and moved here in 1998.  I was raised in Mass. and have resided  in New Hampshire, Maine, Texas, California, New York, Virginia, DC and Florida.  My purpose for wanting to be a board member is to attempt to maintain some sort of fiscal responsibility.  I move here, mainly, because I could afford to, and the location.  To quote a neighbor, “If I wanted to live in Hammock dunes I would have bought in Hammock Dunes”.  I feel the amenities afforded me are sufficient to sustain my present lifestyle.  I also want to represent all 147 lot owners, not just a few and I don’t feel that I should impose my ideas on improving the neighborhood at the cost of all.  As a board member I will strive to keep the neighborhood clean and usable.  For the last 3 years, myself, Harold Clarke and John Bonner have conducted a 4th of July cookout at no expense to the Assoc.  I would like to continue doing this and more without taxing the Assoc.

CANDIDATES FOR 1-YEAR POSITIONS

SARA CLARKE

I have been in the Hammock Beach area for the last 30 years.  I have been a full time resident for the last 10 years.  Currently, I work for Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine FL, as the Customer Relations Supervisor and Volunteeer Chaplain Coordinator.  I have been involved in the HBEHOA for the last 10 years, serving as Vice President/Secretary in 2002, Vice President in 2003, 2004 and 2005.  I have a proven commitment to HBEHOA, working the the betterment of our community, standing firm for the people that make up Hammock Beach Estates.  My commitment to my community extends beyond just my back yard.  I am an advocate worker for community Hospice of Northeast Florida, a member of the Open Heart Task Force Team and Biological Chemical Disaster team for Flagler Hospital, Nove Assoc. and CRT (crisis response training).  My commitment for the future includes: staying committed to the people of Hammock Beach Estates to bring harmony and friendship to our community.  I appreciate your consideration and look forward to serving each of you.

DOROTHY DREXLER

Hammock Beach Estates has been my home for the past fifteen years.  Formerly, I resided in Syosset, New York where my husband, Alex, and I raised four children.  I was employed by the Nassau County Police Department for eighteen years, from 1970 to 1988.  It behooves us all to keep this, our community and homes as comfortable and peaceful as it can be.  As a board member, I will consider it my duty to see that this is done.  Thank you for considering my request.

KAREN JOYCE

My husband and I have been residents in Hammock Beach Estates for almost four years.  Our ties with the general area of Palm Coast go back to 1972 when we bought a lot near Pine lakes Golf Course.  I am originally a New Yorker.  Since 1965, however, I have seen much of the world with my husband, who was a Foreign Service Officer of the Dept. of State.  We lived in Burma, The Philippines, Germany, the Soviet Union, Cuba, and Nicaragua.  During this time we also maintained a residence in suburban Washington.  While abroad I worked at various jobs in our embassies and upon returning to the States in 1991, I worked in the Dept. of State until 1999.  I now work as a real estate agent in the Coldwell Banker office at the corner of A1A and Armand Beach Drive.  I am strongly interested in preserving the unhurried, quiet atmosphere we now enjoy in HBE.  At the same time, I believe there are steps we can take to improve our area.  I am pleased that the Assoc. has begun to take a firmer line on compliance with the C&R requirements on lot and home maintenance, and would work to see that continue.  I would work to build a community meeting clubhouse, improved communal landscaping and fountains on our lakes.

JEAN DOUGLAS SHERWIN

In 2001 I retired from East Ramapo Central school district after 33 years.  I taught high school economics and was an adjunct professor through Syracuse University.  My wife, Renate, and I purchased  four lots, building our dream home on two of them.  After retirement, our family resided in St. Augustine, FL while our home was being constructed.  While renting, the complex was converted to condominiums and became Las Palmas.  As a 400 plus complex, collecting hundreds of thousands of Assoc. fees, I was instrumental in containing costs while at the same time protecting the quality of life the owners expected.  With the above experience, this candidate feels he would be a valuable asset to HBE HOA.  If elected, your voice will always be paramount in any Board consideration.
